Privacy Policy
Hosted Globe service
How we handle personal information
We collect account details (like name and email) to run Globe. Your actual map layers generally stay on your GeoServer or database—we mainly store map settings. We don’t sell personal information. This box is a friendly summary only—the numbered Policy below controls.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to the hosted SaaS Service and should be read with our Terms of Use.
1. Important note about your map data
Globe is designed so that your actual geospatial layer data generally stays on systems you control (for example your GeoServer, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, or other OGC endpoints). The app typically stores map configuration (layer URLs, titles, styles, filters, share settings, and similar)—not a full upload of your spatial datasets—unless a specific feature you choose clearly sends files or data to us.
You (and your organization) remain responsible for privacy and security of data hosted on your servers and for what viewers can see when you share a map.
2. Information we collect
a. Account and profile information
When you register or update an account, we may collect: name; email address; username; password (stored hashed); optional company / organization name; and invitation or seat association when organization accounts are enabled.
b. Service and technical information
To operate and secure the Service we may collect: session cookies and similar login state; IP address, browser type, and device/approximate region from standard web logs; dates and times of access; basic usage events for security, rate limiting, and debugging; and CSRF and similar security tokens.
c. Communications
If you email us, request an invite, or contact support, we collect the content of that correspondence and your contact details.
d. Marketing site
Our public website may use ordinary server or CDN logs. If we add analytics or cookies beyond essentials, we will update this Policy.
e. Payment information (later)
We do not currently describe card processing here. If monetization adds payments, we will update this Policy and checkout flows accordingly.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage accounts, invitations, and (when enabled) organization seats;
- Authenticate users and keep sessions secure;
- Send transactional email (verification, password reset, invitations);
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
- Detect abuse, enforce Terms, and protect security;
- Respond to requests and provide support;
- Comply with law and protect our legal rights.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Legal bases (where required)
If you are in a jurisdiction that requires a legal basis (for example the EEA/UK), we typically rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests (security, product improvement, service communications), consent where we ask for it, and legal obligation where applicable. Counsel should confirm bases before marketing into those regions.
5. Sharing
We may share personal information with:
- Service providers who help us run the Service (for example hosting, email delivery, tooling), under obligations to use data only for providing their services to us;
- Professional advisors when needed;
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security;
- A successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
We do not share personal information with third parties for their own independent marketing.
Shared map viewers may see map configuration and whatever layer content their browsers load from your GIS servers according to permissions you set.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use essential cookies/session storage for login, security (for example CSRF), and core app function. Disabling these may prevent the Service from working. We do not currently rely on advertising cookies.
7. Retention
We keep account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward (for security, backups, dispute resolution, and legal compliance). Residual copies may remain in backups for a limited time after closure. Server logs are retained for operational and security periods, then deleted or aggregated.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to a hosted web app (for example HTTPS in production, hashed passwords, session controls). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for protecting your credentials and the security of GIS systems you connect.
9. International transfers
We may process information in the United States (including Texas) and other locations where we or our providers operate. If you access the Service from other countries, you understand information may be transferred to the U.S.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the relevant age). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe we have done so.
11. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Email info@globegeospatial.com. We may need to verify your identity.
You can update some profile fields in the app (when available) and can stop using the Service. Transactional email related to the account may still be required.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post a new effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice when reasonable. Continued use after the effective date means you acknowledge the updated Policy, except where law requires otherwise.
